Takes modern 2170 batteries too
These flashlights are pretty much identical to a number of other brands I have bought in the last few years. I like them and at this point they're sort of a commodity. The battery choices for this flashlight are pretty wide. It comes with a holder for three AAA batteries but these dinosaur old one-use batteries are best avoided. Additionally it comes with a clear plastic sleeve so that you can use a single 18650 lithium battery. Also like many of this style flashlight you can leave the sleeve out and put a 2170 battery in as well. (21700 is same thing.) See photo. This is a newer slightly larger lithium rechargeable cell that is used in a lot of vacuums e-bikes drill batts etc. also Teslas! You can use button top or flat top lithium cells. Just make sure to put the positive side in first. I took apart an old Dyson vacuum battery and it was filled with 2170s. Three AAAs add up to 4.5 volts. A single lithium cell is only 3.7 volts. So you may find that the lithium beam is not as bright, however the ability to use these rechargeables is fantastic as they last a long time and I have a small drawer full of them. With a dozen of these batteries and a few of these flashlights you can light up your house during a power outage for days! It would take hundreds of AAAs to do the same. I wish every small consumer product were sold with the ability to use these lithium battery cells because they are so much cheaper and longer-lasting and better for the environment than the old disposable alkaline cells we're all used to. There ought to be a law.

As you can see in the pictures, the 3 AAA battery cartages that come with these flash lights, are a little longer than the ones that come in some other flash lights. And the18500 size batteries are way too long to fit in the smaller shorter AAA cartage flash lights.

Not all 3 AAA battery cartage flash lights have a long enough chamber to hold a 18500 rechargeable battery. This particular flash light does; meaning, you can buy and install 18500 rechargeable batteries in them. Their advantage is they're a little lighter (about 5 grams), and they have a considerably larger energy storage capacity. The standard non-rechargeable batteries are 1.5 volt Alkaline, this 3 AAA battery cartage's capacity is rated at only 850 to1200mAh. The voltage difference between the different battery cartage types is so small, it's not a relevant factor, as there is no difference in the beam intensity. As you can tell, In mine, I did installed 9900mAh, 3.7volt,18500 size, rechargeable batteries. In a pack of four, these batteries cost me about $7.25 each. The initial set up cost is the rechargeable batteries only disadvantage. The biggest advantage is free and rare maintenance; in the same time that it would taken me to go through 28 AAA batteries, I will have to charge the 18500 cell once. These flashlights are quality made, have a bright clear beam, and the easy to use "ZOOM function" drastically increases its versatility.Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2023
