Product Description
Ikuchi
Carbon Fiber Flipper Knife
The ultra-slim Spyderco Ikuchi is a radically different approach to pocketknife form and function. Designed by Paul Alexander, a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and a lifelong knife enthusiast, the Ikuchi (pronounced ee-koo-chee and named after a mythical Japanese sea monster) has an elegantly curved handle crafted with full, skeletonized stainless steel liners and stunning carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scales. In the closed position, the handle’s narrow, open-backed profile completely contains the knife’s blade - except for a small textured section of the tang that serves as a flipper opener. Stroking this section of the blade with an index finger or thumb provides leverage to swiftly pivot it into the open position, where locks securely via Spyderco’s patented Compression Lock mechanism. The satin-finished CPM S30V stainless steel blade is full-flat ground for exceptional edge geometry and cutting performance and has an acute, scalpel-like point for detailed work.
To ensure discreet carry while keeping the Ikuchi instantly accessible, its handle includes a low-profile, deep-pocket wire clip that is reversible for left or right-side tip-up carry.

Fun to open and close. The little wheel on top of the knife has jimping,{Ridges} that makes opening this knife quick and easy to deploy. The blade of this knife is very thin and precision ground with a flat grind. This blade easily glides through cardboard and paper. The Knife steel is CPM S30V. Holds a edge and easy to sharpen. Very high-quality U.S.A. made steel
with a proper heat treat. The carbon fiber handles are textured and looks and feels very classy. This is a high-quality peel ply carbon fiber over thin G10 I believe. The pocket clip works like a champ. Discreet and securely holds your knife in place. It is easy to forget the knife is in my pocket till I need It. This tool was manufactured in free China. Also known as Taiwan. The quality and finishing of this tool is really nice. I collect knives and currently own 30 folding knives from this company Spyderco, from Golden Colo Earth. This knife will fit right in at a office job or for light everyday carry and use. Once again this is a slicey blade that is extremely sharp. The blade is securely held in the folded knife frame and has never opened by accident. Spyderco specializes in different looking knives that are built with purpose in mind. To you this knife may look weird but, in your hand, it's a dream to use. I love my Spyderco Ikuchi knife
and have enjoyed using in my daily knife rotation.
People who cannot open it are probably unfamiliar with the compression lock. Or got a lemon, which is unlikely. I have 16 Spydercos and never got a lemon. They r all excellent and function as should.
Edge grind is even on both sides. Is centered when closed. No wiggle when open. Very light. Easy open/easy close with compression lock. Good detent when closed. No flaws whatsoever. Typical spyderco quality. Excellent.
Love it. Very light, elegant, and stabby. I love the open back design, and the carbon fiber is very nice, pretty.
No complaints. Knocked it out of the park once again.
But I do want to stress...BY PRESSING IN THE COMPRESSION LOCK, WITH THE KNIFE CLOSED, HELD HORIZONTAL, BLADE FACING DOWN, WILL ALLOW THE BLADE TO DROP BY GRAVITY. THEN RELEASE THE LOCK AND WRIST FLICK INTO LOCKED POSITION. I'm stressing this cuz the rounded flipper will not work well for everybody. After breaking in, and getting a higher grip on the flipper, flips fine about 70% of the time. Compression lock opening works fine 100% of the time. Awesome knife nonetheless. Noteworthy: as of Feb 1st 2020 the photo is wrong. Is the Native Chief photo. Not the Ikuchi.
Upsides-
The scales are a nice. While I love the texture of the cheap Spyderco FRN scales, these have a good grip and look nice. Compression lock - winner winner chicken dinner. Great lock, one handed closing, and nice fidget factor. My goals for this will be the everyday cutting tape on shipping boxes and as a tool that will make quick work of my carnivore diet based lunches at work. Since the blade shape looks like a great slicer, it should be up to the task. Also, I like the front flipping. The front flipper isn't at the very top, but more in between where a usual front flipper sits and where a regular flipper is. This allows me to flip easily with my index finger, which I prefer over my thumb. Finally, the S30v blade is nice.
Downsides
Wire pocket clip????? This makes me sad. Will be looking for a nice clip to replace. Also, an all blacked out version would be epic. Black screws, clip, spacers, lock, and blade would be awesome. Also, wouldn't mind a little jumping on the top of the blade.
All in all, I love the knife. The downsides I listed are me just being picky.
Cons: Flipper wheel definitely takes practice, Lock is tricky to use one handed if you're a lefty.
If you're opening packages, cutting an apple at the office or doing detail work and enjoy the finer things, this knife is for you.
If you work construction or bush whacking, probably go for something else.

La mollette toutefois est impossible à faire fonctionner, mais je n'en ai pas besoin pour déployer la lame, puisque j'utilise le compression lock pour ouvrir et fermer.
L'Ikuchi est le plus beau couteau au monde ^^
