Quality Portland, Oregon made knife👍
5 Stars
Quality Portland, Oregon made knife👍
I’ve had this knife with me for 3yrs now & it’s served me well out on the road trucking. I prep meals with it & use it to open packages mainly. Since it is a higher end folder knife, I only use it for light jobs & use my MORA BLACK fixed blade beast of a knife for hardcore cutting jobs. (The Inexpensive & quality Mora Black is another knife I highly recommend! I take both these knives with me out on the road; they’re an excellent working pair...the BENCHMADE for light work & the MORA for tuff-n-ruff jobs.)When I first received this Benchmade I took most of the screws out & applied LOCTITE to them & have had no issues with them coming loose. I also removed the pants pocket clip & with a little fiddling, I worked a paracord through the small hole in the back of the knife. I’ve worn it around my neck for the past two years; it’s not too heavy to wear everyday like this. Heck, I even get compliments from strangers who see it hanging on my chest on how good looking the knife is. Rustic & modern look to it.One small caution to anyone wearing this knife on a cord, I’ve had it accidentally flip open a couple times when it rubbed up against something that I was lifting & the SHARP blade came too close to slicing me. (**I’ve had many knives over the years, & out of the box new, this Benchmade was by far the sharpest blade that I’ve seen! I keep it sharp with the small handheld Benchmade knife sharpener, but have not been able to get that incredible out of the box razor sharp edge that it had when it was new. I think it is possible to send the knife back to the company for a factory/professional resharpening of the blade; it’s free to the original owner of the knife & another reason to by from an American company who stands behind their products like this.)This Benchmade folder has been my main knife for years now & I have no desires to replace it with anything else. It’s a tried & true handy companion that goes everywhere with me. 5 stars ⭐️5 year EDC update: Five years wearing this trusty folder around my neck & it's still solid! Such smooth-n-easy one handed opening & closing action to it. I work with it & it's banged up against metal a few times, much to my horror, but the dymondwood scales are TUFF & have held up really well! This is my first recurve blade knife & after using it for years for food prep, zip tie & box cutting, among many other slicing tasks, I love it over a straight edged blade. That dip in the edge catches what you're cutting better on your pull stoke; it's a really efficient & smart blade design.Bottom line: I LOVE THIS KNIFE! *Benchmade needs to keep this model in production for years. (The price has gone up on it considerably since I bought it in early 2018, but it's still worth it. God forbid, if I lost mine I'd buy another one ASAP!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Knife
Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2016
Even though this knife is for hunting, it's still small and lightweight enough to use it as an EDC knife, which is what I do. It is a bit thicker and heavier than the other knives I carry (mini barrage and mini griptillian) but I don't find it uncomfortable at all. The action on this knife is very smooth and the axis lock is easy to operate. Even though this is a manual knife, you can very easily flick it open with one thumb and deploy the blade nearly as fast as an assisted opening knife. The G10 handles look nice and are smooth to the touch. It's hard to tell in pictures, but the handles do have some texture mainly in the form of horizontal grooves or ridges. It's a bit hard to describe but the grip is very comfortable and also allows the knife to easily be pulled out of your pocket without getting caught on the fabric like sometimes happens with more aggressive grips. The pocket clip is the classic benchmade split arrow clip that allows the knife to be securely fashioned to your pocket without being obtrusive while you hold the knife. The carry position is tip up and the clip can be attached to either side of the handle to allow for ambidextrous carry options.

The blade itself is made of s30v steel which is a premium steel that resists staining better than than the 154cm that is common in many benchmade and higher end knives. The blade came sharp out of the box and has held its edge well thus far (although I have not used this knife too heavily as of this review). Now there are really only two downsides that I see as far as the blade and the knife in general are concerned. 1) the blade has jimping both at the back of the blade where it meets the handle and further up near where there blade comes to a point. In my opinion, the jimping is simply too smooth and subtle to provide any added grip. It more or less provides a different texture to let you know where your thumb/finger is but it doesn't do anything to actually prevent your thumb/finger from slipping. Now as I mentioned earlier, this knife does have good grips so I'm not too concerned with slipping, but it's worth noting that the jimping really isn't functional. 2) the recurve (belly) on the knife is a bit more than is necessary. It's a drop point blade which is a great and functional blade shape, but even if you were using this knife for skinning an animal, it doesn't need to have as much of a belly as it does. I think a bit flatter blade shape would have been a better choice for this knife. All that being said, the two drawbacks are not deal breakers to me and I wouldn't hesitate to buy this knife again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything about this knife is "JUST RIGHT"
Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2021
I've always preferred fixed blades- but, this may be the knife to convert me to a folder fanboy! The action on this folder is excellent. It's an addicting flipper! The diamond wood is very attractive. I bought it to expand the family of my Hidden Canyon, and am not disappointed. I was worried about receiving an "ugly" grain. But, the one I got is pretty nice. I'm very happy with my purchase. Let's break it down:

Blade- very sharp out of the box, nice shape for multiple applications, S30V steel holds an edge well (based on experience with my Hidden Canyon- a little stroping gets the edge super sharp again after a lot of use), the stonewash and brushing is very attractive, I love the two points of friendly gimping on the spine

Action- flips open and closed one handed with ease- you will look like an expert flipper, the axis lock is reliable and keeps fingers out of the way of the blade when flipping closed, gravity does most of the work when closing, action is smooth and consistent (I'm not very experienced with folders, but, I look like a pro opening and closing this knife after a minute or two of practice flipping.)

Handle- wood grain looks good (I got a pretty one), it's comfortable with no hot spots that I can discern, it's gentle on your skin without being slippery, I appreciate the less "threatening" look of the wood grain- this looks more like a tool than a weapon (grandpa would carry this)

OVERALL- This knife is very well crafted and pleasant to look at. It's the exact right size for one handed manipulation without sacrificing functionality as a universal application cutting tool. I have medium size hands and find it's fit just right for a folder. It's ergonomic, well balanced, and feels great in hand. I feel like you just can't go wrong with a Benchmade! I'm VERY impressed by both the Hidden Canyon and North Fork in their Hunter series. Maybe there's a Saddle Mountain in my future?
